![]() ![]() In summation, Borderlands 2 sucks, and it killed the franchise for me, and others I know as well. WIDE OPEN spaces with isolated clots of super spongy enemies, anemic weapons with no apparent power and almost no visual or aural feedback, drop tables skewed MASSIVELY toward shit-tier loot in what is essentially a loot-based action RPG, frustratingly over-responsive controls with a response curve that can't be tuned. The rest is.somewhere between mediocre and "just okay." The gameplay is shit too, IDK if I mentioned that. Literally the only noteworthy aspects of Borderlands 2's story is some of the voice acting, particularly Jack and Scooter. It's not amazing, but it's not terrible either. Jack awakens the Warrior juuuuuuust before you manage to stop him? OF FUCKING COURSE HE DOES. First time I saw Roland and Lilith talking in the safehouse, I said "one of these fuckers is gonna die.". Roland dies? Knew that was coming as soon as I met him. Angel is working for Jack? Knew it in the first 20 minutes. The supposed hero inadvertently brings destruction to the town? Been done. The only thing it has going for it is Handsome Jacks charisma. Longer version: not only is the gameplay trash in Borderlands 2, the story is also. Short version, BL2 turns everything that's fun about B元 into a frustrating nightmare. I'll be honest if you love Borderlands 3, you're gonna FUCKING HATE Borderlands 2. Maybe it’s nostalgia, maybe it’s the pacing, but something keeps me coming back. But personally? I prefer to play 2 instead of 3. If you’re a PC player, the Handsome Collection containing both it, the Pre-Sequel, and all the DLC goes on sale all the time for dirt cheap, so it’s worth it as a historical curiosity if nothing else. I personally prefer the aesthetic that 2 went for more than 3 because I like colors and I think that 3’s take on the cell-shaded look combined with the higher graphical fidelity of the game makes everything look a bit too plasticy, but your mileage may vary. The visuals are gonna be a more subjective topic. It still happens in 2, it just happens less. The pacing is also much nicer, you don’t need to spend so much time running around and talking to NPCs and waiting for them to slowly walk from one area to another spewing cringy dialogue. In terms of story, writing, and characterization, 2 blows 3 away and it’s not particularly close. There’s also some balance issues making few weapons viable in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode and the OP levels, but in Normal Mode and True Vault Hunter Mode I think are balanced pretty well. The moment to moment gameplay, if you’re not used to it, is a lot worse than 3 just because 3 gives you more options for movement and the gunplay feels more satisfying. r/BorderlandsGuns for trading gear, as opposed to begging for it r/PandoranRedCross accepts powerleveling and duping requests, unlike us Same subject matter as here, different (colorful!) style r/Borderlands2, /r/BorderlandsPreSequel, /r/Borderlands3, and /r/Wonderlands all allow link posts.
